Match Review-Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI Punjab-Match No.13-Dream 11 IPL 2020

Welcome to another match review and today we are analysing match no.13 held between the Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab.  If you haven't seen the review of the previous match, then please click the following link.  Match Review-Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Rajasthan Royals-Match No.12-Dream 11 IPL 2020.  So now this match was destined to be a cracker.  Because, the Kings have lost twice due to lack of luck along their side.  Mumbai though, have lost by a narrow margin against RCB after a hardly fought super over.  So the game was set up really well.  All right let's get to the toss.

1.  The Toss:

Once again, you will be chasing?  Oh no this IPL is about toss, chasing, losing.  Kings had won the toss and had chosen to bowl.  And when I saw it, I was ecstatic.

I was filled with joy and was sure that MI will win the match.  As far as the teams, the Kings made a change yet again as they sent Murugan Ashwin out and got Krishnappa Gowtham in.  Mumbai sticked to the same lineup yet again.  So let's get to the first innings.

2.  The First Innings:

MI started the first innings in a very slow fashion yet again.  De Kock went wasted again as Cottrell went through him.  Suryakumar Yadav showed signs of a big innings but failed to capiitalize on the start he picked up.  Rohit sharma was repeatedly given out and DRS came to his rescue everytime.  Ishan Kishan was struggling but gave support to Rohit.  After first 11 to 13 overs I honestly thought this match would be a low scoring thriller.  But after Ishan Kishan's wicket, things really opened up and Pollard joined Rohit.  Rohit got set and started to hit the bowlers all around the ground.

Pollard was just setting up his innings.  After Rohit's dismissal Pandya joined pollard and both of them kept the scoring rate relatively high.  In the last over Rahul missed a trick by giving Krishnappa Gowtham the ball.  Pollard hit three consecutive sixes to take the score past 190.  From a point, 150 looked like a good total, but MI's finsihing capabilities saw them take the score from 87 to 191 in just 6 overs.  Now, the chase looked impossible, but can Rahul and Mayank win it for them, let's find out.

3.  Second Innings:

Rahul and Mayank set the stage on fire in the first three overs.  Everyone thought that they might make it, but they were in the chase, just for those three overs.  After Mayank got out, they really lost their way and both the spinners were on fire.  Bumrah finally found some form as he turned out to be the decisive factor.

He dismissed Agarwal and Chahar dismissed Rahul and after that Nair played a worst shot to get out and after that the chase was no more alive.  Pooran kept on adding those big hits.   But Rohit outplayed him with his intelligence by bringing Pattinson in.  Boult had an off day, but in overall all the bowlers had a very good day.  Bumrah was on target and on fire.  Rohit's 70, pollard's 40, pandya's 30, won the game for MI.  Punjab were really out played by MI.  And it is not surprising that they ended up losing after opting to chase.  So let us hope they recover soon.  And today we will have a slow and boring game as two boring teams come together.  Yes, it is CSK and SRH.  So let us hope we don't get a boring match.
