Match Review-Rajasthan Royals Vs Chennai Super Kings-Match No.37-Dream 11 IPL.

Welcome to another match review and today we are reviewing match no.37 held between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.  This match was a do or die match.  Because the team who loses would bow out of the tournament.  So now let us get to the toss.

1.  The Toss:

The much awaited toss for the do-or-die match was won by CSK and Dhoni chose to bat first.

CSK came on with two changes yet again as they replaced Karn Sharma and injured Dwayne Bravo with Piyush Chawla and Josh Hazlewood.  RR came on here with only one change and that was replacing Jaydev Unadkat with Ankit Rajpoot.  So now let us get to the first innings.

2.  First Innings:

Jofra Archer and Karthik Tyagi opened the bowling for RR and they continued to test the CSK batsmen.  Sam Curran just couldn't find the gap and sometimes even couldn't put bat on ball.  Archer dismissed Faf in his second over and then it was all downcast for CSK.  Watson showed little promise but couldn't face more than 2 balls as Tyagi sent Watto back for 8 off 3 balls.  Then, Rayudu and Curran were trying to get the game going, but Shreyas Gopal was introduced and he took the game to a different level along with Tewatia.

The runs dried up like anything im the middle overs.  Jadeja and Dhoni were finding it difficult to score runs off the spinners.  And they were relieved when the spinners finally finished their quota.  Tewatia and Gopal together gave only 32 in their 8 overs and they took two wickets as well.  Finally in the death overs Dhoni was run out right at the time when it seemed that he is back to form.  Archer was making howlers as he let the ball through his hands thrice during the course of the game.  He even dropped Kedar Jadhav which proved to be too costly for CSK as Kedar scored a pathetic 4 runs off 7 deliveries.  Jadeja was the only light in that dark and slow first innings.  His 35 got them to a 125 which looked like a defendable total on relatively slow Abu Dhabi wicket.  So let us get to the second innings to find whether CSK won the game or not.

3.  Second Innings:

The Royals batting innings was full of many ups and downs.  They lost stokes, Uthappa and Samson in a quick succession as CSK's new ball bowlers were giving it all in that wicket.  RR fell down to 28/3 at only 4.3 overs.  But, the game unfolded only after that slow start.  CSK continued to keep RR quiet in the powerplay, but it didn't do them any good.  It was the perfect amount of time that Buttler needed before he could break away.  Smith was playing a traditional test knock and Buttler was getting the runs from the other end.  Buttler took the game away in his own hands.  He destroyed Piyush Chawla for 32 runs.  Thakur was sent back to Chennai with the help of Buttler Airlines.

Thakur's economy was just in the 8's but on the context of the game, that was very high, especially when you are defending a small total like that of 125.  Buttler and Smith were in with a rescue mission and they executed in style.  Buttler faced 48 balls(8overs) and he scored 70.  Smith gave resistance with his 34-ball 26 which gave the freedom for Buttler to take on the bowlers.  This 98 run partnership ensured that RR stay alive and CSK lose 7 and bow out.  Mathematically they may stand a chance but that is far from reality.  So that is it CSK miss out on the playoffs for the first time in their history.  Here I give you the final summary.

Final Summary:

         CSK: 125/5  20 Overs.
