Match Review-Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Chennai Super Kings-Match No.21-Dream 11 IPL 2020

Welcome to another match review and today we are reviewing match no.21 between Kolkata Knight Riders And Chennai Super Kings.  Kolkata have been inconsistent this season but were looking to get back into winning ways and Chennai were fresh after their victory against Kings XI Punjab.  So let us get into the toss.

1.  The Toss:

The Toss was won by home ground boys KKR and Dinesh Karthik chose to bat first on a really handy Abu Dhabi wicket.  Dinesh Karthik finally had his eyes open as he finally wins a toss and chooses to bat first.  Because he has been bowling first and has been losing consecutively.

But this time, he had chose to bat first and I was delighted of that fact, because the highest score that has been chased at Abu Dhabi is 162 that CSK chased against MI in the opening match of this year's IPL.  KKR made no changes to their squad coming into this game.  CSK made one change by getting in Karn Sharma instead of Piyush Chawla who was very expensive in the last few games.  So now, let us get to the first innings.

2.  First Innings:

KKR came on to bat by changing the opening pair.  Rahul Tripathi opened with Shubhman Gill.  Sunil Narine did not come on to bat.  KKR started on a bang as Tripathi showed good touch right from ball one.  Tripathi started to take on the bowlers as he used to do every time.  He scored more than 20 runs in the first 4 overs when Gill was struggling.  Gill got out to Shardul Thakur.  Deepak Chahar was shown no mercy in his first 3 overs as he was smashed away for 33 runs.  Nitish Rana came in and got out as he too struggled to find the middle of the bat.  Dinesh Karthik then, surprised everyone by getting in Sunil Narine at no.4.

But Narine didn't last long as he departed back for 17 runs off a Karn Sharma Ball.  Then Russel and Morgan departed quickly.  But, there was one man at the other end who was adding up the runs, he was Rahul Tripathi.  Tripathi made nearly 50% of the total that KKR had put on board.  Tripathi was adding boundary after boundary to the total.

Nobody ever gave support to Tripathi.  Pat Cummins added some runs but KKR kept on losing wickets on the other end.  And finally Tripathi got out with 3 overs to spare.  And in the last three overs, they crumbled to a total of 167.  KKR lost 6 wickets for 40 runs in the last 5 overs.  Will this small little collapse prove to be too costly for KKR?  Let's find out.

3.  Second Innings:

CSK came on to bat with a desire to get back to their best.  Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis were fresh from a comprehensive 181 partnership.  They started the innings desirably well.  Faf Du Plessis missed out as he gave his wicket away to Shivam Mavi.  But CSK had acquired a good start.  When he got out, the score was 30 after 3.4 overs.  Then, Ambati Rayudu and Watson built a superb 69 run stand in which Watson set up his innings well.  The Chase was looking so boring as CSK were cruising.  CSK lost both Rayudu and Watson in the space of 2 runs as Rayudu got out to Nagarkoti and Watson got out Narine.  Then Dhoni and Sam Curran came in.  But there was a huge problem for KKR as they had bowled Pat Cummins out.  Dhoni started well but perished for 11 runs.  And Sam Curran once again didn't stay long.  Then, came the game changer.  Mr.360 from Pune.  The best player in KKR who is working undercover for Chennai Super Kings.  Mr.Kedar Jadhav.  Kedar Jadhav was joined by sorry looking warrior Ravindra Jadeja.

The Duo failed to chase 35 to 40 runs in the last 4 overs.  Especially Mr.Jadhav who was playing like a pure test cricketer.  He defended his first ball like an agmark technical genius in Cricket.  And his bat was very heavy, that he could not lift it and hit it over for a boundary.

He played a gem of an innings as he scored 7 off his 12 balls.  In the last over, he made another mistake by denying a run and facing another dot ball.  He finally changed over and Jadeja scored 14 off the last 3 balls to get them near to the total.  Overall, this game was CSK's to lose.  Because, they played brilliantly in the first 13 overs and then lost their path in the last 6 to 7 overs.  So let us meet again tomorrow for the next match review.

       KKR: 167/10  20 Overs
