Match Review-Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Mumbai Indians-Match No.32-Dream 11 IPL 2020

We are here and back finally after missing 4 games.  And we are here to review one of the rivalry encounter, that is Mumbai Indians Vs Kolkata Knight Riders.  Mumbai Indians at the top half of the table took on KKR who are struggling to make their prescence felt.  So now, let us get straight into the toss.

1.  The Toss:

Dinesh Karthik gave away his captaincy post to World Cup winning captain and English legend Eoin Morgan.  And Morgan won the toss in his first match as an IPL captain.

He chose to bat first and  he made two changes as he replaced Banton and Nagarkoti with Chris Green and Shivam Mavi.  And MI came to Abu Dhabi with 1 change as injured Coulter-Nile came back to replace Pattinson.  So now, let us get to the first innings.

2. First Innings:

KKR started the first innings and they changed their batting order yer again.  Rahul Tripathi was given another opportunity in the opening slot.  And Gill accompanied him.  The first three overs were going very slowly as Boult was swinging it all around.  And Boult came back for his second over and built up the pressure, which persuaded Tripathi to slash his bat and He edged it and Suryakumar yadav took a very good catch at point.  Then Nitish watched Gill make runs steadily and got out after scoring just 5.  KKR were not so good as they lost 2 wickets for 33 runs in the first Six.  Then the game shifted yet again as Rahul Chahar dismissed set Gill and inconsistent Dinesh Karthik in consecutive balls.  Then Morgan came in to face his first ball as a captain.  And he was joined by out of form Dre Russ.  Russel had a very short stay and Bumrah planned and set him up and sent him back and the KKR camp sent Pat Cummins in at 7 when the score was 61/5 after 10.4 overs.

Then, Morgan and Cummins took time to get set and when both of them got set, especially Cummins, after he got set, the game took a turn.  He was timing the ball well and at the same time he was placing it beautifully.  He even scored his first 50 in t20's.

In the last four overs from over 16 to 20 Cummins and Morgan paired up for 49 runs.  Totaly they stitched a 81 run partnership from just 56 balls to rescue KKR from slipping away to a dismal total of somewhere around 100 and 110.  They found a run machine in the name of Coulter-Nile, who was targeted and he too was very rusty in his approach and his deliveries were not the coulter-nile kind of deliveries.  Totally KKR posted a decent and defendable total at their home ground, obviously it is also MI's homeground but today they are the home team and both teams know about how hard it is to chase over 160 and 170 at Abu Dhabi.  But, this total is below par and let us see whether KKR can defy the odds and get back to winning ways.

2.  Second Innings:

The second innings started by the way and the familiar opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock made it's way.  And nothing went in the way of KKR as their new recruit Chris Green was hit for 16 runs and Prasidh Krishna was expensive yet again.  MI started on a bang as they scored 30 off 3 overs.  De Kock and Rohit were scoring very fluently just like they were facing school bowlers.  When Rohit knew that De Kock was going good, he did the right thing by giving most of the strike to De Kock.  De Kock too didn't fail Rohit and  his efforts reduced the required rate below 6.

Finally after 10 overs the breakthrough came and it was Shivam Mavi.  Mavi swung the ball beautifully and he got the better of Rohit Sharma who was just starting to get the flow.  With the required Run Rate well under 6, Suryakumar and De Kock slowly got the runs coming and Suryakumar Yadav fell to a teasing flighted delivery of Varun Chakravarthy who keeps on impressing people with his economy.

MI required a run-a-ball 37 and in came Hardik Pandya the all rounder.  Oh sorry, it is Hardik Pandya the Batsman this season around.  Then in the 15th over QDK put the game into bed by hitting a four and then a six.  From what we thought, that KKR could take the game away from MI, the game turned out to be a very easy chase for MI.  They requured just  23 off the last 30 balls, which is not a big task for a team like MI.  And I didn't expect the match to get over in the next two overs.  But Pandya and QDK had that in their mind and Pandya started the ending ceremony by demolishing Cummins for 15 runs and in the next over Green gave away the remaining in just 5 balls to send MI to the top of the table.  A clinical MI kind of a performance and once again KKR lose 2 in a season again MI.  KKR were thoroughly outplayed again as MI dominated them both with the ball and the bat.  Lot to work on for KKR and MI on the other hand though have to work a lot on their death bowling as they leaked runs in the death yet again.  Malinga's spot is not yet filled and MI are looking at different guys to fill.  Other than their death bowling everything is going good for MI.  So that is it for today and I leave you with the final.summary.

Final Summary:

    KKR: 148/5  20 Overs
