Match Review-Mumbai Indians Vs Chennai Super Kings-IPL 2020

Welcome everyone to Sports Curator's match review of Match No.1 in Dream 11 IPL 2020 between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.  The review is of three segments 1. The Toss, 2. First Innings, 3. Second Innings.  So without any delay let us get into the review.

1.  The Toss:

The much awaited toss was won by the Chennai Super Kings and Dhoni took the perfect decision by choosing to bowl first.

MS Dhoni After Wnning The Toss

The par score on that ground was 161 but Chasing was expected to be very easier in the dusty and humid conditions of Abu Dhabi.

Rohit also wanted to bowl, but the toss favoured Dhoni's men.  Dhoni had brought in team debutants Sam Curran and Piyush Chawla.  And meanwhile Rohit brought in a surprise pick Saurabh Tiwary and team debutants James Pattinson and Trent Boult in.  So now let's get into the first innings that is the Batting Innings Of MI.

2.  First Innings:

Mumbai Indians started the innings with Rohit And De Kock scoring 45 off 4 overs.  De Kock was on fire.  He scored 33 of 20 and Rohit scored 12.  And Rohit first lost his mind as he found Sam curran trying to hit over mid off of a Piyush Chawla ball.  De kock folllowed Rohit as he slashed the ball straight to Watson.  Then, Surya Kumar Yadav and Saurabh Tiwary built a small partnership and pushed the score upto 80 after ten overs.

But the real surprise was waiting for them after the 10th over.  Mumbai completely lost their way, they could not rotate the strike well, due to the immense pressure built by the likes of Chawla, curran and Ngidi, the Mumbai batsmen were simply swinging at everything.  But the true villian for MI was Faf Du Plessis.

Faf The Hero, Faf The Villain.

He took three awesome catches to dismiss Tiwary, Pandya and Pattinson

Finally Mumbai crumbled and stumbled to a par score of 162/9.  The spearheads for CSK in bowling were Chawla ji and Lungi Ngidi.  Ngidi dismissed Pollard, Krunal and Pattinson.  Piyush dismissed Rohit earlier other than that Chawla ji was an absolute economist.  As he conceded only 21 in his four overs. Mumbai's innings was comprised of high levels of inconsistency.  As they started at 10 runs per over and slowly crumbled to 6 runs per over in the last 5 overs.  The middle order just couldn't rotate the strike, especially Hardik Pandya who, except his two sixes did nothing.  Lack of rotation of strike, built high pressure which resulted in the players swinging at everything.  So Mumbai had to bounce back with their bowling.

2.  Second Innings:

As far as the second innings is concerned, CSK had to chase down a par score of 162.  In the humid conditions at Abu Dhabi the chase looked easy, but CSK had a shock as Boult and Pattinson were stealing it away by dismissing Watson and Murali Vijay in the first two overs.  Ambati Rayudu and Faf Du Plessis joined hands when the score was 6/2 after two overs.

They started very slowly as the score was just 23/2 after the end of 5th over.  But CSK batsmen built momentum in Bumrah's over.  After banging down four dots in four balls, Bumrah then conceded three of the fifth ball and a four of the last ball.  The over looked decent, but he had bowled a No ball and the free hit was sent out of the park.

The Monstrous Power Of Mr.Bahubali Of CSK.

He conceded 14 in two balls, that was where the momentum built for CSK.

Du plessis and Rayudu then built a very strong partnership over 100 runs which did the job for CSK.  But they started to face pressure when Rayudu got out.  But they managed to win through all odds. Mumbai had nothing going their way when it came to fielding.   As they missed a plenty of chances at crucial times.  For both Rayudu and Faf.  These missed chances made the day.  Even though they drawed it back to 29 runs required of 3 overs.  Krunal Pandya gave away 13 off the 18th over and Bumrah gave away 11 off the 19th over.  The last over was just a formality, Du Plessis smashed two fours of two balls and won the game easily.  Totally MI lost it due to worst discipline on the field and poor batting in the middle overs.  Congratulations to CSK upon starting the season on a high.  And Congrats to Mumbai on continuing their first match jinx.  As Mumbai continue a 8 match loss streak in the opening games.

Final Summary:

          MI- 162/9 after 20 overs

          S.Tiwary: 42(31), Q.De.Kock: 33(20)

          CSK- 166/5 after 19.2 overs

Ambati Rayudu: 71(48), FAF Du Plessis: 58(44)

Finally, the game changer was FAF who shattered MI's hopes with with multiple stunners and steady batting.  So let's hope we get another good game tonight as Delhi Capitals take on the Kings XI Punjab.
