Match Review-Mumbai Indians Vs Kolkata Knight Riders-Match No.5-Dream 11 IPL 2020

Welcome to another match review today it is the match that was held between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders in Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.  The Kolkata Knight Riders were playing their first match in this year's IPL.  The Mumbai Indians were back after a defeat that they suffered against CSK.  So let's get straight into the toss.

1.  The Toss:

The Toss was won by Kolkata Knight Riders and their captain Dinesh Karthik opted to bowl first as all teams had done this IPL.

Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan were surprisingly available and they made their comebacks to this team.  And as usual Narine and Russel made their way and wicket keeper batsman Nikhil Naik made his second appearance for the team.  As far as Mumbai are concerned they went on with the same team that played CSK.

2.  First Innings:

The First Innings started with a shock as Mumbai lost Quinton De Kock for a very small score of 1.  But Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma took the score to a different level by taking on some heavy weighted bowlers like that of Pat Cummins.  Their Partnership lasted for 90 solid runs.  In which Surya Kumar Yadav was the aggressor.  But the partnership finally broke away due to a run out.  The Run out was controversial because it looked like Morgan had clipped the stumps with his leg before he clipped it with the ball.

After Surya got out, Saurabh Tiwary came in and then he shared a 49 run stand with Rohit Sharma.  Rohit was phenominal in yesterday's game, his 80 runs were very vital as he stayed for the major course of the game.  Rohit showed really good touch in the first game but could not capitalize on it as he gifted his wicket to Piyush Chawla.  But in the last game he made no mistakes, Rohit was crystal clear in everything.  Rohit smacked six sixes in the innings which saw him cross the 200th Six mark in IPL.

Rohit Pulls Himself To Another Double Hundred...

But Rohit got tired and got out before the last two overs.  Then Hardik Pandya got out to hit wicket.  Then Pollard and Krunal got the score to 195.  Shivam Mavi was the standout bowler for KKR as he took 2/32 off his 4 overs.  The 15 crore packet Pat Cummins was demolished for  49 runs off his 3 overs.  KKR had to chase a mountain of 196 but with the likes of Russel, Narine they could make it.  Let us find out whether the Knights could dump MI.

3.  Second Innings:

KKR started the second innings with Shubhman Gill and Narine coming in with a lot of firepower.  Trent Boult started the innings on a high for MI as he bowled a maiden in the very first over of the innings.  The Knights really struggled to gain any momentum in the game as they could never live up to the Required Run Rate.  Boult and Pattinson showed their strength with the new ball.  The trouble for KKR was lack of strike rotation.  They found the odd boundary at times but could never get a flow to their innings.  Also, set players like Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana stumbled due to increasing Required Run Rate.  Rohit's masterstroke of letting Pollard bowl 3 overs, was very fitting and magnificent.

Caribbean Calypso..

KKR never gained momentum as wickets continued to fall.  Rohit was rotating the bowlers very well.  When Russel Came in expectations were really very high.  But Russel Succumbed under Bumrah's intelligence.  Bumrah Went through both Russel and Morgan.  When Cummins came in, the game was always over.  But Cummins did try his level best.  He spoiled Bumrah's bowling figures by scoring 27 off his last over.  Then Cummins got out to Pattinson who was the pick of the bowlers for MI.  Totally the game was one sided with KKR having a lot of work behind the field.

Final Summary:

           MI: 195/5 20 overs

           R.Sharma: 80(54) ; S.Yadav: 47(28)

           KKR: 146/9 20 overs

           P.Cummins: 33(12) ; D.Karthik: 30(23)
