Premier League Champions - Liverpool Ending Their Wait For Premier League Title

Finally Anfield’s agonizing title search for 30 years has ended in 2020, once all looked at Liverpool and said “you would never win the premier league title”, and now those people would bow down and throw their hats off at Liverpool, why am I saying all this? Because we are going to capture all historic events right from their last title in 1990 until now.

1.WINNING THE TITLE IN 89-90 SEASON:

Anfield had its 18th English Football League title in the 89-90 season where Liverpool had got to the first place with 79 points, 9 points clear of Aston villa.  Liverpool had a monstrous team that season, with John Barnes as their highest scorer.  Liverpool where very successful that season with 13 home wins and 10 away wins, and 10 draws in total.  Liverpool also had beaten their rivals Manchester United at the old Trafford who had a disastrous season finishing 13 in the league table.  Liverpool were led by player manager Kenny Daglish.

Daglish And His Warriors Lifting The Premier League Trophy..

The Scottish player was one of the legendary figures in liverpool’s history a player with more than 350 official appearances for Liverpool. Daglish still remains one of the legendary managers of Liverpool.  The team had the likes of Ian rush who also gave his contributions for helping Liverpool win the title.

2 .  THE NEXT FEW SEASONS:

All Eyes were on defending champions Liverpool, Liverpool didn’t disappoint their fans but didn’t win the league, instead Liverpool finished 2nd being 7 points below Arsenal.  That season Liverpool had the highest winning run of 8 matches.  And also had the best away win when they won 1-7 against Derby County.
With a big ray of hope Liverpool started their next season hoping to get the cup back to Anfield, with a managerial change by bringing in Graeme Souness, came in some new players like Dean Saunders, Mark Wright, Mark Walters.  This was also Liverpool’s centenary season.  What an occasion to get the title back to Anfield!  but Liverpool failed to do so, they finished 6th place losing to teams like Leeds United.  The only positive of that season was winning the FA Cup.
Next season saw Liverpool finishing 6th again as Ian Rush

Rush Scoring A Goal

being the only positive for Liverpool, that season saw Liverpool raise one of their club legends, Robbie Fowler.  The next few seasons saw Liverpool having some ups and downs and Manchester United and Arsenal dominating the Newly Found Premier League the rebirth of English Football league.

3.  STEPPING INTO THE 21ST CENTURY:

Liverpool entered into the 21st century with a lot of ambitions.  One of their main ambitons were getting the Premier League trophy back to Anfield.  Liverpool had a really good squad, they had a good young midfielder in their squad, named Steven Gerrard, who went on to become a club legend.  Liverpool had a superb start to the 21st century where they were absolutely rampant, Liverpool were treble winners in 2000-01 season, where they won the league cup(present:Carbao Cup), FA Cup and also the UEFA Cup(UEFA Europa League).

The Treble Cup Has Been Won

But Liverpool just could not win the League title.  It was the same year when a star evolved, it was  Michael Owen.  Owen was unstoppable at Liverpool as he won the Ballon'd or that year.

Some years went by and players like Owen moved on and one of Liverpool's best moments came in the year 2005, where they entered into their first Champions League final in the 21st century as Liverpool faced AC Milan at Istanbul. Liverpool being underdogs fell 3 goals behind in the first half, courtesy goals from Hernan Crespo and Paolo Maldini.  With extreme pressure of turning a deficit of 3 in a very heated UCL final, Liverpool stepped on to the pitch.  Inside 15 minuets Liverpool drew level with Milan, with goals from Captain Gerrard, Smicer and Xabi Alonso.  As Liverpool and Milan fought intensively for another 1 hour, the game still needed a result, the game extended into the Penalty Shootout.  Liverpool legend Jerzy Dudek made 2 great saves to help Liverpool clinch their 5th Champions League Title.

The Best Comeback Ever....

Years flew by as Liverpool were on song and were determined to win the league title in 2014 when they threw away the first position to Manchester City.

3.  GERRARD SLIPS!!

Club legend and captain Steven Gerrard had his horror moment of his footballing career, when he slipped against Chelsea.  The Date was April 27 2014, Liverpool were 5 points clear of 2nd placed Manchester City.  Liverpool had three games in their bag, where they faced Chelsea in the 3rd last game of their season.  The match was going on really well but not untill that horror moment.  After Half Time Liverpool came on to the pitch to atleast draw that game, having lost to the blues at the Stamford Bridge earlier that season, Liverpool were destined not to lose the game.  Captain Steven Gerrard received a pass from defender Mamadou Sakho, everything was fine but Gerrard after receiving the pass went on to dribble, he pushed the ball with his legs, and when he took the second step, he lost balance and slipped.

Gerrard Slips!!  And Demba Ba Rolls It Between The Legs Of Mignolet.

Chelsea Striker Demba Ba raced forward and took the ball away and fired it past Goal Keeper Mignolet.  The Parity did not stop just there, as Chelsea scored again at added time to make it 2-0.

With 2 matches left in the season and 2 points ahead of  Manchester City, Liverpool Just had to win their next two games against Crystal Palace and New Castle.  But Liverpool and Gerrard threw away a 3-0 lead against Crystal Palace as Crystal Palace scored twice in the last 10 minuets to equalize and smash all the hopes of Liverpool.  Liverpool even after winning their last game against New Castle fell 2 points behind City.

4.  THE TITLE HUNT CONTINUES:

After a dramatic turn of events saw Liverpool give up the title to Manchester City, Liverpool, started the next season with all eyes on winning the Premier League title.  But they had a really awful season.  Brendan Rodger's side could not win anything that year, Liverpool sold their star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona that year and instead they brought in players like Balotelli, Lallana, and some players as his replacements, but no one lived up to their expectations,  Liverpool finished a dissapointing 6th in the premier league and were semifinalists in both FA cup and Carbao Cup.  Liverpool's top scorer that season was veteran Steven Gerrard.

In the next season Liverpool had its worst ever moment, it was the departure of club legend Steven Gerrard.

Really True Steve We Loved Every Single Second Of Your Legacy

Gerrard was released and sold for free to LA Galaxy and Liverpool brought in Aston villa superstar Christian Benteke, who was expected to get to his best at Liverpool.  But that season also a saw shocking moment for Anfield fans, their manager Brendan Rodgers was sacked and Jurgen Klopp signed as the new manager.

Start Of A New Era: The Klopp Era

However Jurgen could not bring success straight away as Liverpool finished 8th in the league and were eliminated in the fourth round in the FA Cup and were runners up in the carbao cup.  Liverpool finished that season without a trophy as well.  But Liverpool finished runners up in the UEFA Europa League which gave a little amount of confidence for Klopp's side.

Klopp and his men started the season with a lot of confidence.  In the transfer window players like Mane and one of their all time flops Loris Karius were brought in and some good youngsters like Luis Alberto were sold to Lazio which Liverpool would regret selling even until now.  Liverpool had a positive progress in that season they finished 4th in the table and qualified for the UEFA Champions League, but once again Liverpool could never keep their hands in any of the major trophies.  Liverpool were eliminated in the fourth round in the FA Cup and once again semifinalists in the Carbao Cup.  Even In charge as the Liverpool Manager for more than one season, Jurgen Klopp could not win anything with Liverpool.

With the Champions League spot boosting Liverpool's confidence, Liverpool set out on a mission in the 2017-18 season, as Jurgen pulled off one of the most benifitting transfers in Liverpool's history.  He roped in the Egyptian King Mohammed Salah.  That season also saw one of their wonderkids leave his home.  Yes, Coutinho was sold to Barcelona in January and in came Southampton Centre Back and future Ballon D'or runner up Virgil Van Dijk.  Liverpool finished 4th in the Premier League once again.  But they had immense success in Europe as they progressed to the Finals of the UEFA Champions League only to lose against Real Madrid in one of the horror nights for Loris Karius.

The Great Howler...

That match also was the turning point in Karius's career as he could never play like he used to be, that night meant to be the end of a promising German Goalkeeper's career which has not picked up until now.  That match also saw their main man Salah dislocate his shoulder.

With a Champions League Finalist medal Liverpool finished trophyless once again and even being incharge as Liverpool Manager for Three years Jurgen Klopp could not win a single trophy.  With wound of a trophyless streak extending for 4 years Liverpool were destined to break it and they succeeded as well as the won their 6th Champions League trophy by defeating Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 in the final,

Liverpool Start Their European Domination by extending Tottenham's Trophyless Streak

but finishing 2nd in the Premier league
was hurting Liverpool, because once again Manchester City gave all sorts of problems for Liverpool as Man City Stole the Title away from Liverpool and extended their search of their First Premier League Trophy by one point.  Liverpool had the least number of losses that season as they lost only once but drew 7 times which meant to be the deciding factor.  With the title hunt extending for another year Liverpool were well prepared and boosted by their Champions League Triumph.

5.  WINNING THE TITLE:

Liverpool are having a monstrous season where they are the dominant team in the Premier League, Liverpool had the fire in them and gave no chances to any teams.  With only one loss and two draws Liverpool have already won the title with seven games to spare.  This season saw good fortune helping Liverpool on their path to glory as Guardiola's Manchester city lost 8 times and failed to chase the title.  Liverpool have won the title being 23 points ahead of Man City.  Jurgen who was criticised heavily due to extending Liverpool's trophyless streak is now praised for bringing the Premier League trophy to Anfield for the first time and ending their League title search of 30 years.  It is really a proud and nostalgic moment for all Liverpool fans around the world, and let's hope whether Liverpool could manage to extend their trophy run by winning it next season.
Yes The Reds Have A Premier League Trophy To Carry With Them!

That is all for now and once again hats off to Jurgen and his men as the Reds will Never Walk Alone this season, because they have a prestigious Premier League trophy to carry with them.
